New District 22 : Assemblyman Kevin Mullin OPEN HOUSE
Assemblyman Kevin Mullin, Former Mayor of South SF Open his House to San Mateo constituents.
Truth be told, I don't like to cover politics.
Once, I told myself if I'll write on a blog the topics would be the manycolored paths of fascination delving into the rockteeth of magic and imagination. It would be fun to to write on art, paintings, drawings, letterforms, scultpures, architecture, music, sports, scientific discoveries, mathematics, mysteries, low and high-tech mysteries, charitable organizations and an activist for the underdog.
Politics is a murky area; in mathematics it is fuzzy logic. A hazy field .

A month ago based on the invitations via their friendly asistants, I'd visited the two Open Houses from two Assembly members who authored bills related to gun violence and gun control : District 15, Nancy Skinner(D-Berkeley),author of Assembly Bill 174 and District 16, Rob Bonta( D-Oakland), author of Assembly Bill 187
After receiving three emails from the outreach group of Assembly Member Kevin Mullin (D-San Mateo), District 22, County San Mateo, Cities : Burlingame, Daly City, Pacifica, Redwood City, San Mateo, South San Francisco , I decided I might as well take a look out of curiosity. After all, Assembly member Mullin came from our town, the City of South San Francisco.

The open House was last March 28,2013,Thursday, March 28, 2013, 4 - 6 p.m, at 1528 South El Camino Real #302-303.
On my way to the Open House, my memories got activated. I remembered a young Kevin Mullin, knocking at my door and handing me a signed letter from the then-State Senator Jackie Speier, now Congresswoman. It was 1996 and the letter was for the Mayor of Pasig City, Philippines, a Sister Cities International event on establishing a sister city relationship. The late SSF Mayor Jack Drago who was sick at that time couldn't make the trip and had assigned me to represent him. I brought gifts from SSF and letters of congratulations from several local and national politicians.
I also remember attending his 'practice rehearsal' for the defense of his MPA thesis at San Francisco State University. Other people were in the room but I remember SSF Public Library Director Valerie Somners and then Councilman Gene Mullin who discussed the possibility of receiving e-mails from residents while a townhall meeting is going on.
Upon entering the lobby at the beige-brown building, I noticed former Assemblyman of District 19 Gene Mullin. I waved at him and he came forward to talk to me . He said, "Did you change your mass schedule(St Veronica's Church)? I don't see you at church anymore." Furthermore, he inquired on Patch Editor, Drew Himmelstein since I said I will blog this article for Patch . I said , "I think she had a baby and had written her goodbye in an article." Drew is one of the rainbows in SSF.
I aimed my camera at Gene Mullin, he said, "Don't take my photo. Not me, go up and cover him." as he pointed his fingers upstairs. Now, that's a dad thinking of his son.
The storyline of the Open House was the long line of folks who wanted to greet the newly-elected Assemblyman under a new District. Mario Rendon was a friendly District Director. I'm glad I came because I saw my friend Anne Im who attended Fort Mason calligraphy night classes . She and her husband David used to give me rides after the classes. She pulled out her cell phone and proudly showed the photos of her twins. She said,"What are you doing here in San Mateo?" Anne used to be an assistant to one of San Mateo County Supervisors and currently a Director of AACI(Asian Americans for Community Involvement) . Familar faces from SSF were Planning Commissioner Rick Ochsenhirt , former Councilman John Penna, Scott of Artistic Adults. The Cancer Relay supporters Silma and Nancy were on hand to ask support. Skyline College Director Angelina just wanted to meet the new Assemblyman. And me? When it was my turn I asked , "What do you want to say to the people of South City?" He said, "Thanks for the support." and then he pointed out that there was still a long line of folks behind me.
I still wanted to visit the open house on the other side of the building. By the time I arrived at State Senator Jerry Hill's Open House, his female representative anounced that it was a CLOSED HOUSE. That meant Assemblyman Kevin Mullin had a longer line because when I left Mullin's area, there were still a lot of folks standing on line.
