Glad to see limits (hopefully) being place on high school football. The research shows time andRead More time again the damage being done to the human brain after consistent hits to the head. Minimizing the risk seems like the natural and best thing to do.
JMarsh July 10, 2014 at 02:15 pm
I totally agree with limiting the chance of brain trauma. One thing we need to remember is thatRead More junior high and high school students' brains are still developing.

For those who think it is ok for your kid to get their brain throttled, do you support their use ofRead More drugs, too? Mixed messages.

I've lived in San Bruno for 65 years and the Posy Parade has always been a part of my families SanRead More Bruno experience. My brother and I participated in the Parade with "floats" we helped our parents put together starting in 1950 (the 10th annual Posy Parade). I was on the Parkside Posy Parade baseball game team in 1958; but, back then the game was against Millbrae's Taylor school team. And, my three children helped us build floats and participated in the Parade for years during the late 70's and 80's. Our floats were decorated with 100% flowers, the only way you could win a trophy back then was by having 100% flowers on your parade entry. In my basement I have just over 20 Posy Parade trophies (including 7 Grand Sweepstakes trophies) and I've still got the autographed baseball signed by the entire San Francisco Seals professional baseball team that was given to all the players in the Posy Parade baseball game in 58 (the San Francisco Seals were the first professional baseball team in The City, before the Giants).

It is a bit of a quantum leap to equate a rich celebrity cheating on their wife with some other goodRead More looking female who is either a willing sex partner, or a gold digger looking for a pay day, with a rapist. Rape is usually about revenge, power, anger, payback, etc. Tiger Woods and the others had sex with a lot of other good looking women because they could. Apples and oranges. And just curious Bob the dentist, how are you such an expert on rape? You admit to never having been raped, yet you are so quick to opine that just because somebody finds her story to have some credibility issues, you assume they are chauvinistic, misogynistic, and uneducated? Or have we arrived at the point where any female who makes an allegation should automatically be believed?

Desert Rat....Let me clarify..I am not equating rape with high risk sex...I was only saying thatRead More many men, in the celebrity life and otherwise, will risk everything, their careers, etc., to have sex....be it consensual or non consensual. As far as assuming that the women is telling the truth...I have no idea....without more info it would be presumptuous of me to assume anything...it is true, however, that many many men get away with rape, mostly recently Jameis Winston...the evidence against is hard to refute.....I would guess that very few rapes get reported as a percentage of total rapes...the statistics bare this out...and even fewer rapes, still, are prosecuted...thus, not too much fear of any athlete being sent to jail for rape. Mike Tyson is the only one I can think of though I am sure there must be others....

Parents ruin sports..
sportsnut July 14, 2014 at 04:39 am
Alan I agree. Parents coach to get their kids and kids friends a leg up. Kids are choosen too basedRead More on parents and kids being friends. Take AAU and All-Stars and positions in each sport. Parents coach because they want their kid in prime positions, kids are friends with certain kids or because a family does not like someone but the kid has talent not playing. You need "out of area" coaches to come and determine if a kid is "that good" to be at the next level not "locals" whom coach because that is the only way the kid will get playing time.
CowDung July 23, 2014 at 07:20 am
sportsnut: Seems like a perfect opportunity for you to get involved in coaching... If nothingRead More else, becoming a coach will give you a voice in the league to lobby for equal playing time for all kids, and rotation of positions--particularly at the lower levels.

It would be great for the city of Oakland and the bay area community at large if we can keep the A'sRead More in Oakland. I support moving the A's to the Howard Terminal just north of Jack London Square. This would help to revitalize the city of Oakland tremendously. I say, keep the A's in Oakland at any cost.
