Patch Gives Back at the Second Harvest Food Bank

Editors packed fruit to help those in need.

In an effort to give back to the communities we serve, Patch.com took some time this morning to package tangerines and grapefruit with the folks at the Second Harvest Food Bank in San Carlos.

Patch Peninsula Regional Editor Jamie White, and local editors Vanessa Castañeda of Menlo Park, Kenny Porpora of San Carlos and Drew Himmelstein of South San Francisco helped the folks of Second Harvest sort and package fruit for those in need.

The food bank helps package and deliver food – chili, fruit, bread, snacks – to the less fortunate.

For the second week in a row the food bank has had a team of editors helping them out. Last week, editors from Pacifica, Redwood City, Belmont, and San Mateo came out – clad in black and green Patch sweatshirts – to help the cause.

Patch got its start when Tim Armstrong, CEO of AOL, was looking for a place to volunteer in his community. When he couldn’t find anything, he became determined to create a network that would encourage and support volunteering.
