The El Camino High football team has a solid running attack, the kind that wears down opponents. That's exactly what happened on Friday afternoon as the Colts ground up visiting Capuchino, turning a close game through three quarters into a rout.

Nathan Huey rushed for 180 yards and two touchdowns and D.J. Peluso added 62 yards and two touchdowns as El Camino beat the Mustangs, 47-20, in a Peninsula Athletic League Lake Division game.

El Camino held a 21-20 lead entering the fourth quarter, but Capuchino's defense couldn't stop the Colt offense in the final period, and two late interceptions broke the game open.

"In the beginning of the game, not everyone was focused going 100 percent," Huey said. "At halftime, we made adjustments, and that's what happens."

Said Capuchino coach Jordan Seiden: "We weren't tackling. It's been the story of our season. Bad tackling and being out of position on defense. It's frustrating. I'm kind of tired of the moral victories of playing harder every week. We're just not finishing."

El Camino (5-4, 3-2 PAL Lake) scored first, with a six-play, 53-yard drive that culminated in Peluso's 4-yard touchdown run.

Capuchino (1-7, 0-4) answered right back with a mirror-image six-play, 53-yard drive, with Jordan Griffiths scoring on a 4-yard run.

Capuchino went up 14-7 when Luke Gray blocked a punt and A.J. Simpson recovered it in the end zone late in the first quarter.

Then Huey tied the score in the second quarter with a 29-yard touchdown run for El Camino.

The Colts wasted no time in the third quarter taking the lead for good. Omar Kharroub hit Ronnie Francesconi on the half's second play for a 55-yard TD pass.

Capuchino's Tim Gretter found Lucciano Molina for an 8-yard touchdown later in the period. A missed extra point left Capuchino down 21-20 entering the fourth quarter.

Then, things unraveled for the Mustangs. Kharroub found Justin Eclavea with a 16-yard TD pass. After a Capuchino punt, Huey scored on a 27-yard run.

Then Gretter was picked off, leading to another Peluso score, this time on a 13-yard run. After another Gretter interception, the backups did the work, with Frank Valderama scoring on a 12-yard run.
