BASEBALL: San Mateo Edges Warriors Again

South City races to quick 3-0 lead but Bearcats answer back to prevail 8-7 in Peninsula Spring Classic Tournament game; Warriors fall to 0-3 against PAL Ocean Division rival.

The Score: San Mateo 8, South City 7.

The Star: South San Francisco High’s Joey Moro hit a two-run home run to right-center in the seventh inning to pull his team within one run of San Mateo. The senior first baseman finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run in the Peninsula Spring Classic Tournament game at Aragon High on Tuesday afternoon.

The Turning Point: San Mateo overcame a 4-3 deficit by scoring twice in the top of the third and then added two more runs an inning later to take a 7-4 lead. That proved to be enough of a cushion for the Bearcats to withstand Moro’s late blast.
