SSF Schools Getting Healthy Dose Of Help Saturday

5k run on Saturday will benefit local public schools.

School spirit will be alive and well in Orange Park on Saturday during a charity run to raise funds for South San Francisco schools.

"This race was something I was interested in doing for a couple of years. I finally put it to reality this year with some wonderful people helping me. There have been about 10-15 of us working very hard to put this together," said organizer Nadia Oskolkoff, an assistant principal at South San Francisco High School. "Our theme is to promote health, community and education."

Runners can choose which of the South San Francisco Unified schools they want to support, but in the end all the schools will benefit from the attention. Runners may register the day of the event or through EventBrite.com. The run begins at 9 a.m.

Oskolkoff and her team rallied supporters from San Francisco, as well as students and faculty from local schools.

"I could not have organized this race without the help of the city of SSF," Oskolkoff wrote in an e-mail. "Parks and Rec as well as the Police department and the CERT teams have donated countless hours to help me (and my team) organize this first ever event. The school board as well has been very supportive."

The 5k race starts and ends at South San Francisco High School, looping through the city. The event winds up at Orange Park, with music, food, prizes and relaxing after the run.
