School Board to Vote on Disputed Property in SSFUSD

The issue is coming to a head after residents petitioned to change school district boundaries.

South San Francisco's School Board will vote Thursday on whether to support a petition to change school district boundaries to allow San Bruno to have jurisdiction over property on Merimont Cir. near Monte Verde Park.

The vote comes in the midst of a long-standing dispute over property within San Bruno that is also part of the South City Unified School District.

The San Mateo Daily Journal reports Thursday that in August, residents of the Merimont subdivison in San Bruno petitioned the San Mateo County superintendent to change school district boundaries since property tax money goes to the South City school district.

The Journal reports that: "When the issue originally came up, San Bruno Park officials said that when the county maps were changed in regards to the city limits, the district changes were overlooked. South San Francisco Unified, on the other hand, maintained that the district lines were never meant to be changed."

According to the SSFUSD board agenda for Thursday evening, staff recommends that the board oppose the petition so that the district can maintain jurisdiction over the area.
