SSF Resident Charged with Illegal Contributions
Two officials at a shuttle bus company attempted to funnel campaign contributions to Ed Lee through their employees, the San Francisco district attorney says.
Hanan Qutami, resident of South San Francisco, along with Jason Perez, resident of San Mateo, were charged with channelling illegal donations to San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee's campaign on Tuesday.
Qutami, 56, is the chief financial officer of Go Lorrie's Travel and Tours, a shuttle bus company. Perez, 40, is the general manager. Perez convinced 23 company employees to make $500 contributions to Lee's campaign—the maximum allowed by law—and Qutami and Perez reimbursed them to the tune of $11,500, according to charges filed by San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon, KQED reports.
Such action would amount to a violation of San Francisco's campaign finance law because company officials attempted to funnel a large contribution through their staff.
