South City Remembers 9/11

As police, firefighters, elected officials and residents remembered the loss of 9/11, thoughts turned to victims of the San Bruno fire.

Firefighters, police officers, elected officials and local residents gathered together at 10am Saturday morning on the lawn between City Hall and the Grand Avenue library to remember the sacrifice and loss of 9/11 with patriotic songs, prayers and readings.

Doug Butler, a resident of South San Francisco for more than 50 years, organized the ceremony with support from Mayor Mark Addiego.  This commemoration on the ninth anniversary of the attack was the first such official ceremony South City has had.

After opening with remarks remembering the loss of lives at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and on Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pa., his thoughts turned to a more recent tragedy closer to home.
