South San Francisco is Not on New List of Top 100 Riskiest Segments of Gas Pipeline

Though pipeline in South San Francisco was previously considered among the top 100 high-risk segments of pipe, it was not on the list PG&E released today.

PG&E, in response to demands by the California Public Utilities Commission, made public a list of the top 100 segments of gas pipeline it had designated as high risk.

The list included pipelines in San Carlos, San Jose and throughout the Bay Area but did not include the San Bruno pipeline that exploded Sept. 9.

Though previous documents that PG&E filed with the California Public Utilities commission indicated that a stretch of pipeline, L132,  in South San Francisco was designated as one of its top 100 high-risk segments and was slated for replacement, that segment was not on the list released today.  Rather, the list included a segment of L132 between Milpitas and Crystal Springs reservoir.

It is unclear at this time whether PG&E has downgraded the risk of the pipeline in South San Francisco and why.

PG&E also released a map of the high-risk segments of pipe, available online.
