Local Unemployment Dips Under 9 Percent for First Time in Three Years

Do the job numbers forecast economic improvement in South City?

South San Francisco's unemployment rate dipped just under 9 percent in December 2011, according to the California Employment Development Department.

The 8.9 percent rate represented the first time the city's unemployment rate was under 9 percent since January 2009.

By comparison, California's unemployment rate for December was 11.1 percent, down 0.2 percentage points from November and down 1.4 percentage points from a year earlier.
