City Council Agenda: Tennis Courts, Bikes, SamTrans and More

South San Francisco City Council meets Wednesday Oct. 10 at the Municipal Building at 33 Arroyo Drive.

According to the agenda and staff reports, the following items will be addressed at tonight's meeting at 7 p.m.

  • A proclamation of this week as Fire Prevention Week 2012 in South San Francisco. The theme for this year’s week is “Have 2 Ways Out.”
  • A proclamation for October as Filipino American History Month.
  • Council will act on a motion to declare the Sister Cities Blvd. Guardrail Project complete. This project began in 2009 when city staff applied for a federal grant for the project of about 2,500 feet of guardrail along the Sister Cities Blvd., between Hillside Blvd. and South San Francisco Drive. According to a staff report, the project was completed at $169,147, which was about $20,600 under projected costs. The project was funded by a federal grant with 10% local match from Gas Tax.
  • The council is recommended to receive a $7,667 grant from California Library Literacy Services to help fund ongoing local efforts for the state program Families for Literacy.
  • Council is recommended to adopt a resolution accepting a $90,000 grant from San Mateo County Safe Routes to School program, which promotes safety and air quality through reducing vehicle trips to schools. The grant is to help South City’s Parks and Recreation Department implement before and after school programs at South San Francisco Unified schools including Buri Buri, Ponderosa, Monte Verde, Spruce, Los Cerritos and Martin.
  • Council is recommended to adopt a resolution awarding the Stonegate Tennis Court Replacement Project to Mountain View-based Saviano Company. The project will include resurfacing the two existing courts, replacing the nets and fence and installing a root barriar on the western edge of the courts to prevent root intrusion. The project will cost $75,000, which is $92,000 below a competing bid on the project.
  • Council is recommended to award a bike lane project contract to San Jose-based Granite Rock Company dba Pavex Construction Division. According to a staff report, the project will install 4.5 miles of bike lanes and signage in various parts of the city. A grant form the Regional Bicycle Program through the City/County Association of Governments of San Mateo County would fund this project.
  • A presentation on SamTrans Service Plan by a SamTrans project manager.
