UPDATE: Brush Fire Contained, But More Than 1,000 Lose Power

A freeway off-ramp in the Brisbane area has reopened following the containment of a three-alarm brush fire near U.S. Highway 101, officials said this evening.

The 7-10 acre fire, first report shortly after 1:37 p.m. in the area just west of Bayshore Boulevard near Sierra Point Parkway, has been contained, and fire crews should be clear of the area in another hour or so, according to Ari Delay, a battalion chief for Cal Fire.

Bayshore Boulevard and the connecting northbound Highway 101 off-ramp were closed by the fire, but both reopened just before 7:30 p.m., according to Delay and the California Highway Patrol. An estimated 10-20 homes in the Harold Road area of Brisbane were threatened at one point during the fire, but despite strong winds, none were damaged, Delay said.

There were no injuries, and the cause of the fire, which started right next to Bayshore Boulevard, remains under investigation.

Most of the land burned by the fire is San Mateo County parkland, part of San Bruno Mountain State and County Park, Delay said.

The fire caused a power outage affecting an estimated 1,350 customers in parts of Brisbane and South San Francisco after it damaged an underground switch around 1:37 p.m., according to PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi. All affected customers in the area were expected to have their power restored by 7:30 p.m.

However, Guidi noted that a power line had also fallen in the area, causing a second, unrelated power outage affecting around 790 customers around 4:30 p.m. Customers affected by the second outage were expected to have their power restored by later this evening.
