SSF Man Arrested on Suspicion of Auto Burglary

Officers arrived quickly thanks to a witness who reported the crime in progress.

The San Mateo Police Department arrested three men, including one South San Francisco resident, on suspicion of burglary early Sunday morning after a witness reported seeing the crime in progress, authorities announced Tuesday.

The witness reported a possible auto burglary in progress in the 500 block of Monte Diable Avenue at about 1 a.m. Sunday, San Mateo Police Sgt. Dave Norris said.

Officers responded and found three suspects in a nearby vehicle, who were identified and subsequently arrested on suspicion of auto burglary, Norris said.

The Police Department also offers the following safety tips:

Be Prepared:

  • LOCK YOUR VEHICLES! Most thefts of this type occur because vehicles have been left unsecured in an accessible area overnight.
  • Record serial numbers or engrave a personal identification number on valuable items such as portable or removable electronics.
  • Remove from your vehicle or hide from view any removable or portable items of value such as car stereos, GPS Units, iPods, etc.

Be Alert:

  • Do not be afraid to call the police when you see something suspicious. Alert neighbors are responsible for the majority of arrests made in residential burglaries (like this one!).
