South City resident, Alvaro Humberto Lopez, 33, has been sentenced to 14 years in state prison for illegal posesssion of narcotics and firearm and gang association.
After a 7-day trial, in August a jury found Lopez, a 19th Street Sureño gang member guilty of posession of narcotics for sale, posession of firearm by felon and felony committed for benefit of a street gang.
In May 2011 San Francisco Police obtained a search warrant for the defendant and his residence. Police observed the defendant exiting his residence in South City and subsequently searched him and found just short of 4 ounces of heroin.
In the defendent's residence, police found an unloaded revolver and ammunition wrapped in a blue bandana, heroin and some cocaine. Photos of the defendant with gang members were also discovered.
In a parallel investigation of another Sureño gang member, text messages were found to and from the defendant that portray him as the source of supply to dealers.
The defendant's sentence also includes 566 days credit for time served in state prison. He was being held on $1,000,000 bail.
