South City Police Link Suspects To Six Burglaries

A probation check sheds light on a recent series of home burglaries.

Two men who were arrested during a probation check in South San Francisco last week have been linked to as many as six home burglaries, police said.

A patrol officer contacted Jesus Gomez, 19, and Henry Perez, 31, on Aug. 15 on San Felipe Avenue as the two men were crossing the street, South San Francisco police Sgt. Bruce McPhillips said.

The officer had recognized Gomez, who was on probation, from a previous interaction at a South San Francisco police station.

The men were searched and an unloaded handgun was found in Gomez'
waistband, McPhillips said.

A records check revealed that the gun was registered to the owner of a home in the 300 block of Serra Drive that had recently been burglarized.

Under further questioning, Gomez implicated himself in as many as five other home burglaries that occurred in South San Francisco in February and March, McPhillips said.

Perez is suspected of taking part in at least one of the burglaries, according to police.

Both men were arrested for multiple felonies, including home burglary and probation violation.

Investigators eventually recovered much of the property that was stolen from the home on Serra Drive, including a handgun and a rifle, police said.

Gomez remains in custody in San Mateo County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. Perez is in custody on $200,000 bail.
