South City Police Detectives Nab Serial Arsonist

Several incidents of Arson in South City appear to be the work of one resident who was recently arrested by local police.

South San Francisco Police reported this week that detectives arrested Jonas Tubon, 30, of South City on 8 counts of arson.

Tubon committed arson in his own neighborhood, on Waverly Ct., just west of I-280 near Avalon. The incidents occurred over a five-month period in 2012.

Detectives found evidence of the arson on footage from a home surveillance camera system. A light-colored Nissan pickup truck was taped entering the court moments before a fire started.

When the vehicle was tracked to Tubon, he was arrested and booked at the San Mateo County jail.

San Jose Mercury News reported that Tubon was out on bail and is due in court on Oct. 23.
