South City Man Arrested After Car Chase

Police from SSF and San Bruno twice pursue suspect who is allegedly intoxicated with his child in the car.

San Bruno and South San Francisco police arrested a South San Francisco man on Saturday after he allegedly twice fled from police with his young child in the car, South San Francisco police said.

San Bruno police received a call at about 2:15 p.m. of an apparently intoxicated driver near The Shops at Tanforan in San Bruno who had swerved in the road and had several near collisions.

A witness followed the driver into the mall parking lot where the driver, Alvin Chin of South San Francisco, stopped the car, police said.

Witnesses said they noticed a young child in the car with the man.

The witness told Chin, 43, they had called the police and told him to wait. Chin then allegedly backed up his car into the witness' car and fled the scene, SSF police said.

San Bruno police found the vehicle and attempted to stop Chin but he fled on El Camino Real at a high rate of speed, ran several red lights, and drove recklessly, SSF police said.

Police discontinued the pursuit.

Officers were able to identify Chin and the child as his 5-year-old son.

Officers monitored his residence and after a few hours, Chin drove past his house and still had his son, SSF police said. When police tried to stop him, police said he sped off again at a high rate of speed.

Police, again, discontinued the chase.

Officers continued their search and found Chin sleeping in his vehicle in San Francisco and booked him into San Mateo County Jail for two counts of felony reckless evading and two counts of felony child endangerment, police said.

His son was located with a family member and was unharmed.

Chin was out on bail for a separate "road rage" incident that happened on Mar. 14 in South San Francisco when he was driving recklessly with his children, the same 5-year-old and a 10-year-old, in the car, police said.
