Police arrested a 26-year-old engineer for a DUI collision near the Genentech corporate headquarters in South San Francisco Tuesday, police said.

At about 6:45 a.m., officers were notified of an erratic driver just east of U.S. Highway 101. The vehicle was being driven on its rims and appeared to have been in a crash, police said.

Officers located the driver with the vehicle in a parking lot near the biotechnology company Genentech on DNA Way, officers said.

The driver was identified as Redwood City resident Jonathan Abelian, police said.

Police did not release the suspect's employer, but according to a LinkedIn profile under his name, Abelian is employed by Tesla Motors.

Abelian admitted to police that he had consumed alcoholic beverages as well as intentionally inhaling, or huffing, aerosol fumes.

Police said the damage to Abelian's vehicle is consistent with striking a center median on the highway. No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the collision, police said.

Abelian failed a series of field sobriety tests and was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

He was booked into San Mateo County Jail with bail set at $7,500, police said.
