POLL: Keep the Neighborhood Response Team?

With its two-year starter funding set to retire, the police department and the city will have to make a tough decision.

Old Town has seen a significant decrease in violent crime and vandalism since the city created the Neighborhood Response Team just over a year ago, .

But in order to keep the program going when its two-year seed money runs out, the police department may have to cut community outreach programs like the Gang Resistance Education and Training courses and the Citizens Academy, Massoni told the city council last night.

Council members weren't happy about the proposed cuts, but also weren't ready to commit to permanently increasing the size of the police force.
