Police Working to Identify Sexual Assault Suspect

The attack happened on San Mateo Avenue on Thursday night.

Police in South San Francisco are trying to identify a man who attempted to rape a 26-year-old woman as she walked down the street Thursday night.

The victim was walking on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of San Mateo Avenue at about 10:45 p.m. when a man grabbed her from behind and pulled her into some bushes, police said.

The suspect pushed the woman to the ground and slapped her in the face when she started to scream, according to police.

Despite grabbing and tearing the victim's clothes, the suspect was unable to fully remove them, police said.

He ran away and was last seen heading south toward San Bruno.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man with a stocky build and short buzz-cut hair. He is about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds. He was wearing a short-sleeve, button-down plaid shirt and long pants at the time of the attack.
