PHOTOS: Friends, Family Mourn Teen at Vigil

The Arco gas station on Westborough Boulevard became a site of mourning after a 15-year-old was shot there by a police officer Tuesday night.

Less than 24 hours after 15-year-old Derrick Gaines after contact with a South San Francisco police officer, close to 100 friends and family members gathered at the Arco gas station on Westborough Boulevard, the site of his death.

They comforted one another, shared memories, sang songs and left stuffed animals, balloons, flowers, signs and messages to Derrick.

The South San Francisco Police Department says that Gaines pulled out a gun after running from an officer. The officer was in fear for his life when shooting, according to police.
