Next Saturday, Sept. 29, the department will hold an open house and carnival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fire Station 61. The event is to kick off October as fire prevention awareness month.

The event will include:

  • Fire House Tours
  • Safety Demonstrations
  • Play "Put out that Fire" and "Fire Prevention Trivia"
  • Win Prizes
  • Meet your firefighters!
  • $1 carnival rides
  • 50-cent games
  • $3 Pancake breakfast
  • $3 Hot dog lunch
  • Meet Gypsy the Search & Rescue Dog and Sparky the Safety Dog

Fire departments across the country use the week of October 8, the anniversary of the 1871 Chicago fire, to raise fire prevention awareness. South San francisco dedicates the entire month of October to fire safety, teaching prevention at each local elementary school.
