The memorial service will begin at noon Thursday in San Jose.

About 20 to 25 South San Francisco Police officers – or one-third of the department – will be attending Thursday's memorial service for the fallen Santa Cruz Police Officers, according to Sgt. Bruce McPhillips.

There are a total of 6,000 Bay Area police officers – along with thousands of local citizens – expected to attend the service in San Jose. It will begin with a motorcade procession down Highway 17 at 8:45 a.m.

The memorial service for fallen Santa Cruz Police Sgt. Loran "Butch" Baker and Detective Elizabeth Butler is set for noon at HP Pavilion. The arena holds up to 17,000 people.
