UPDATE: Suspect Identified in SWAT Team Action on Miller Avenue

Police say Michael Gattrell injured one person and was locked in a house with weapons.

Update, 4:44 p.m.: Police have identified the man they arrested as Michael Gattrell.

The police responded to a report that a man with a knife was threatening to kill people on the 600 block of Miller Avenue at approximately 11:46 a.m.

Upon arrival, police encountered a man who had been assaulted and had a severe head injury, according to a police statement. The victim identified his assailant as Gattrell and told police Gattrell was inside a home on the 600 block of Fourth Lane armed with weapons, police said.

Both the North County Regional SWAT team and the South San Francisco Hostage Negotiation Team were activated. A hostage negotiator made contact with Gattrell, who surrendered to the SWAT team, according to police.

The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment, police said.

Update, 3:55 p.m.: One man was injured in a fight in the Miller Avenue home and taken to the hospital with non-fatal injuries, according to a police officer at the scene.

Police have removed crime scene tape and Miller Avenue is completely reopened to the public.

3:01 p.m.

Police arrested one man after a SWAT team surrounded a home on Miller Avenue in South San Francisco this afternoon, according to an officer on the scene.

Police haven't yet commented on the reason for the action or the arrest.

As of 2:50 p.m., three police cars lined Miller Avenue near Orange Avenue, and police tape blocked access to a small home behind 661 Miller. Officers are waiting for a search warrant, according to police.

The SWAT team is gone, but at around 1:40 this afternoon, the street was blocked off and snipers were positioned on the roof of a nearby home, according to neighbors.

Neighbor Maureen Kelly said someone may have been taken away in an ambulance.
