Officers Issue 67 Tickets to Seatbelt Violators in Day-Long Enforcement Effort

South San Francisco police recently held a "Click It or Ticket" enforcement effort in town.

By Bay City News Service:

Police in South San Francisco on Friday cited 67 motorists for failing to wear seatbelts while driving, a police lieutenant said.

Officers of the Police Department's traffic unit issued the citations during a "Click it or Ticket" enforcement effort to implement safety belt and child restraint use laws, Lt. Keith Wall said.

In addition to the 67 tickets for seatbelt violations, police also cited one motorist for driving without a license and another for driving with a suspended license, Wall said.

Three specially trained officers spent the entire day Friday enforcing seatbelt laws, Wall said.

The department plans to deploy other special enforcement details for seatbelt violators in the coming weeks. A nationwide "Click it or Ticket" enforcement period is to take place from May 19 to early June, Wall said. South San Francisco police received a grant, from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which funded the seatbelt enforcement program
