A motorcyclist suffered major head and chest injuries after drifting into the path of a passing car on Interstate Highway 280 in Redwood City on Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The victim, a 32-year-old woman from South San Francisco, was riding north on I-280 just south of Edgewood Road on a 2006 silver Honda motorcycle around 12:15 p.m., CHP officials said. The motorcyclist was traveling in the left lane when a 2005 silver Honda sedan passed in the next lane over. The motorcycle was traveling around 55 to 60 mph, and the car around 65 to 70 mph.
For an unknown reason, as the car passed, the motorcyclist drifted into its lane. The car's driver, a 20-year-old San Jose man, tried to avoid a collision, but did not succeed, according to the CHP.
