Man Who Grabbed Kid Was Trying to Be Friendly, Police Say

The man who picked up a 12-year-old boy from behind in a bear hug in a McDonald's bathroom was intending to be friendly, police said.

An man Saturday is not a threat, according to police.

South San Francisco police had asked the public to help them find the suspect of what they initally labeled a kidnapping attempt. A citizen called police on Tuesday with information that helped them locate the man in question.

After speaking to the suspect, police concluded that the man, who is mentally challenged, intended to be friendly and was not attempting to kidnap the boy.
