Jury selection took place and the trial will proceed on Tuesday for an incident that occurred last year.

A former front desk clerk at the Ramada Inn in South San Francisco who sexually assaulted a maid last year will now stand trial.

As of Friday, three days of jury trial and the second day of jury selection had been completed.

According to the district attorney, Navjit Singh, 25, approached the victim while she was cleaning a room in September 2011. Singh put his hand down her shirt, pushed her onto a bed and lay on top of her and began to pull off her clothing.

When the victim began to scream, the defendant got up and began to apologize.

At that point, the defendant returned to the front desk and the victim went to tell another maid about the incident. According to the DA, the victim did not want to tell a hotel manager about what happened because she was afraid of losing her job or being deported because she had an expired tourist visa from El Salvador.
