Man Pretending To Be Utility Worker Steals From Nurse in South City

The man allegedly stole $800 from the nurse on Thursday afternoon.

A man pretending to be a utility worker allegedly distracted and stole money from a South San Francisco nurse on Thursday afternoon.

The incident was reported about 3:30 p.m., when a senior home care nurse heard the doorbell ring.

The nurse opened the front door of the home on 400 block of Acacia Ave and was greeted by what appeared to be a uniformed “utility worker," according to South San Francisco Police.

The supposed utility worker asked the nurse if he could speak with her about the overhead wiring in the side yard of the residence.

The nurse followed the "utility worker" into the side yard, where they spoke for approximately five to 10 minutes. The nurse left the front door of the residence wide open, according to police.

When the conversation ended, the "utility worker" walked down the street, and the nurse returned to the home. She noticed her purse was moved and that $800 was missing from it.

Apparently, the "utility worker" acted as a distraction while at least one suspect entered the home and burglarized it. The nurse did not know whether anything else was missing from it.

The nurse described the “utility worker” as a white man, about 50 years old, with black hair. He was wearing a black baseball hat, a dark blue uniform, and brown shoes.

He had a lanyard around his neck with an unknown type of identification badge. The nurse did not see any vehicles or any suspect associated with the “utility worker”.

South San Francisco Police are asking that anyone with information regarding the incident contact Officer Wong of the South San Francisco Police Department at (650) 877-8900 or the Criminal Investigations Bureau at (650) 877-8910.
