Man Pleads Not Guilty in Crash That Killed Cousin
Prosecutors say Dennis Rogelio Salguero had been drinking at his father's Daly City home before attempting to drive home with his two cousins.
A South San Francisco man pleaded not guilty Friday to vehicular manslaughter and drunk driving charges in connection with a Daly City crash that killed his cousin, according to prosecutors.
Dennis Rogelio Salguero, 22, was charged in connection with a Dec. 18 crash that killed Gilbert Vallejo, a 33-year-old Daly City resident, and injured another person. Vallejo and the other injured passenger were both Salguero's cousins, according to District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.
Prosecutors say Salguero had been drinking at his father's Daly City home before attempting to drive home with his two cousins.
Around 4:45 p.m. his vehicle, which was allegedly speeding and swerving on Interstate Highway 280, struck the center divider near Westlake Avenue, ejecting Vallejo, according the California Highway Patrol.
Salguero and the other passenger suffered minor injuries, according to the CHP. Prosecutors said Salguero's blood alcohol level tested at .14 and .13 two hours after the crash.
Salguero did not waive his right to a speedy preliminary hearing, and a preliminary hearing date was set for Jan. 8 at 2 p.m., Wagstaffe said.
He remains in custody in lieu of $250,000 bail.
