Erratic Motorcyclists under Watchful Eye of South City Police

The South San Francisco Police Department is giving special attention to motorcycle drivers this weekend.

Written by Bay City News:

Police in South San Francisco are turning their attention to motorcycle safety, and plan to conduct a specialized Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Operation on Saturday, police Lt. Keith Wall said.

In the last two years, South San Francisco was the location of two fatal motorcycle accidents in which the drivers were found to be under the influence when they lost control and crashed.

With California collision data showing a recent spike in motorcycle fatalities, the South San Francisco Police Department plans to have extra police officers patrolling areas frequented by motorcyclists and where motorcycle crashes occur, according to Wall.

Officers will be looking for violations made by drivers and riders that can lead to a crash. Officers will also be on the lookout for anyone driving under the influence, driving recklessly or making illegal traffic moves.

For more motorcycle safety information, Wall encourages motorcyclists to get training through the California Motorcyclist Safety Program by calling 1-877-RIDE-411 or online at www.CA-msp.org.
