Employees Evacuated, 2 Hospitalized After Reports of a Pungent Smell

The cause of the smell and the employees' respiratory problems were unknown as of Tuesday afternoon.

About 20 people were evacuated from work Tuesday afternoon when a pungent smell was reported in a building in South San Francisco, a fire marshal said.

Firefighters responded to a report of a strong aroma coming from inside Soonest Express Global Logistics at 228 E. Harris Ave. at about noon, South San Francisco Fire Marshal Luis Da Silva said.

About 20 employees were evacuated from the building and two had to be transported to a hospital for respiratory issues, Da Silva said. The two are expected to survive, he said.

A hazardous materials crew entered and searched the building.

No cause of the smell was found, the fire marshal said. The building was ventilated and the employees were allowed back in at about 3 p.m., he said.

Every year I buy more school supplies and art supplies for the teachers and they know they canRead More always count on me for more whenever needed. I'm a strong believer in encouraging children to be creative and get rid of the barriers to the freedom of self expression.

We help by asking teachers if they need anything. They'll drop hints and we'll go and purchase theRead More products. Most, if not all, parents are willing to help their children's classes if they are able to. It's really unfair for the teachers to purchase supplies out of their own pockets.
