Crime Blotter: Mystery Train Holds up Drivers and Man Spotted Trying to Break into Vehicles at Genentech

Selections from the police blotter for April 15 through April 17.

Friday, April 15

9:34am  Police received a report that a group of transients were living in a vacant house on Juniper Drive. The caller said that they would enter through the back of the house and regularly made noise at night.

10:23am  A hit-and-run accident took place at the Shell station on Airport Boulevard, where a vehicle was rear-ended while its driver got gas. The offending driver then reportedly took off.

4:16pm  A unit at Public Storage on Meath Drive was reportedly burglarized sometime overnight. Among items reported as missing were a 50-inch television, a computer and miscellaneous jewelry.

Saturday, April 16

4:47pm  Four juveniles were spotted smoking marijuana near the basketball courts at Alta Loma Park. The caller said that there were two boys and two girls who looked to be between 14 and 16 years old.

11:12pm  A resident in the Cypress/Aspen Avenue area called police to complain of a party at a neighbor’s house that had reportedly been going on all day.

Sunday, April 17

7:26am  On First Lane, a resident reported that neighbors had been arguing, yelling and throwing things since 5am.

9:51am  A jogger reported seeing a tall, thin man who looked to be either Asian or Hispanic trying to break into vehicles in a parking lot of one of the Genentech buildings. The caller said that man was wearing a large gray jacket, and was banging on car windows.

5:07pm  Reports came in that the crossing arms were down over the train tracks on Airport Boulevard, preventing drivers from getting across. The lights had been flashing for nearly an hour, according to reports, but no train was coming.

6:40pm  On Bradford Drive, a passing driver reportedly saw three small children in the back of a parked truck with no adults around. The caller said that one of the children, a toddler, was putting a garbage bag over its head and pulling the drawstring.
