Crime Blotter: Fireworks, Bicycle Theft and Hidden Webcams Reported

Incidents reported to police July 4-July 6. The following information was supplied by the South San Francisco Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Monday, July 4

12:15am  Police received a call that people were setting off fireworks near Paradise Valley Park on Hillside Boulevard. The caller said that there were visible flashes in the sky, and that the area was full of dry vegetation.

12:58am  Callers reported that fireworks and cherry bombs were going off on Eighth Lane.

2:49am  Officers sent a cover unit to Callan Boulevard, where a resident reported that someone was trying to break into her house through a rear window.

9:26pm  Reports came in that a group of people gathered for a party in the area of Miller Avenue and Heather Way were setting off fireworks.

10:28pm  An anonymous caller from the Serra Drive/Southcliff Avenue area called police complaining that fireworks going off in the area sounded “like a war going on in South Vietnam.”

Tuesday, July 5

2:03am  A caller from Quality Inn & Suites in South Airport Boulevard reported that a man wearing a black hat and jacket was shining a flashlight into the windows of parked cars and had tried several door handles.

8:37am  At the Pellgrini Bros. Wines Inc. on South Maple Drive, employees complained that the driver of a large semi had driven over their front lawn, damaging it. They said the driver was being uncooperative.

10:32am  The window of an apartment on Carter Drive was broken sometime during the morning. The caller reported that nothing was missing from inside.

6:28pm  On McLellan Drive, the driver of a tan Lexus GL 450 reportedly hit another vehicle in the parking garage and then entered an apartment building. The reporting caller said the man did not live there.

7:14pm  A bicyclist at Orange Memorial park was reportedly pushed off his bicycle by a man he said he knew. The suspect then took off with the bicycle.

8:52pm  CHP officers reported that a gray sedan crashed into a pole near the intersection of Veterans Boulevard and Oyster Point Boulevard, resulting in unknown injuries.

10:02pm  A caller from Cortesi Avenue reported finding a webcam in one of her bathroom vents. The caller, who said that she and her parents own the home, did not know who put it there.

Wednesday, July 6

6:15am  Police referred to the SPCA after receiving a report from a Genentech security guard that a dog had been hit by a car on East Grand Avenue. The guard said that he saw the dog limp away.

6:44am  On Circle Court, a gold Chevy Tahoe was broken into sometime overnight.

2:13pm  A resident on Tipperary Avenue reported that kids had been jumping his fence and killing fish in the home’s backyard.

8:43pm  A towing company reported that a male subject was lying in the middle of the road near the intersection of Westborough and Callan Boulevards, possibly unconscious.
