Cal Fire officials issued a statewide burn ban Wednesday.
The burn ban suspends residential burn permits and other permitted burning, including those for forest management, within the tens of millions of acres that the state protects from wildfire, officials said.

"With conditions being so dry, we need to take every step possible to prevent new wildfires from starting," Cal Fire Director Chief Ken Pimlott said in a statement.
This year has been especially dry and more fires have been reported throughout the state, fire officials said.

The majority of large and damaging fires tend to occur in the fall, however big fires have broken out earlier this year, fire officials said.
