Brazen Burglars Use Garage Door Openers to Steal Keys, Vehicles

The thieves made off with two vehicles in South San Francisco, according to police.

By Bay City News Service:

Brazen burglars broke into a car parked in a South San Francisco driveway early Wednesday morning and used the garage door opener inside the vehicle to gain access to the home where the burglar stole two sets of keys and the two vehicles they belonged to.

South San Francisco police said the vehicle thefts and residential burglary took place around 2:20 a.m. in the 100 block of April Avenue where the suspects broke into a Lexus that was parked in the home's driveway.

Inside the Lexus, the suspects allegedly found the garage door opener, which they used to gain access to the home where they took the keys to the Lexus and to a Honda Civic that was parked inside the garage, according to police.

The suspects drove off with both the Lexus and the Honda, however the Lexus was located several blocks away after it was involved in several minor collisions with unoccupied parked cars and stationary objects, police said. No one was injured in the collisions.

The Honda Civic, with a license plate of 5RRF435 is still outstanding. Anyone with information related to this crime is asked to contact police at (650) 877-8900.
