Alleged Thieves Almost Make off with $170K in Computer Chips
Suspects trailed someone by car from San Jose to South City Monday afternoon. One suspect was apprehended, and several others are still at large.
According to a police report, a group of individuals attempted to steal $170,000 worth of computer chips from someone's truck on East Grand Avenue late Monday afternoon.
Jose Martinez of Los Angeles and other unidentified suspects followed the victim from San Jose into South San Francisco, arriving around 4:50 p.m. to the 400 block of East Grand.
The victim's father had also followed, and parked his car behind Martinez on East Grand. When Martinez exited his vehicle and approached the victim's truck, the victim's father confronted him.

Martinez then fled on foot, and the other suspects fled in their vehicles.
Police found Martinez following the incident and he was booked in San Mateo County Jail.

The other suspects were not apprehended, but were reportedly driving a gold Dodge Caravan with California license plate 6VOY107 and a white Ford Explorer California license plate 6VXB701. However, one suspect was seen switching the Dodge plate with an unknown plate before fleeing the scene.
Martinez is in jail with $10,000 bail.
