Accused Parking Lot Girlfriend Beater Finally in Court

A man accused of brutally assaulting his girlfriend in public two years ago is facing trial.

A South San Francisco courthouse played host to the second day of an assault trial on Tuesday.

Jaime Francisco Rodriguez, 34, is facing assault and corporal injury charges after allegations of brutally beating his girlfriend in the parking lot of a Redwood City strip mall in 2011.

According to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office, Rodriguez's girlfriend at the time found Rodriguez sitting in a car with a woman. The woman then told the girlfriend "I've been [having sex with] your man for six months," which prompted the girlfriend to remove all of Rodriguez's items from the their apartment.

The girlfriend then found Rodriguez and the woman in the mall parking lot and brought him his personal items.

"Rodriguez became enraged, exited the car and punched the victim in the face four to five times," DA's office notes say. "She fell to the ground and he continued to stomp and kick her on the face and body."

The trial began Monday and continued Tuesday with further proceedings expected throughout the week.

Rodriguez is currently out of jail on $100,000 bail.
