Parent Wants 'Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown' Banned

One parent is asking the holiday classic special to be removed from the airwaves because of a 'bullying' theme. What do you think?

Light-hearted teasing, or cruel bullying?

One parent is speaking out online against the Halloween classic children's television show, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," claiming the animated favorite actually condones bullying, according to a report on WCVB.com.

The TODAY Show's Moms Blog reported this week that in a recent blog post on Babble.com, blogger DadCamp wrote that the show sends the wrong message to children because of its "continuous teasing and bullying":

"The show is riddled with the kids calling each other stupid, dumb, and blockheads," DadCamp wrote. "Charlie Brown is supposed to be the hero. Instead, he is kicked and demeaned at every turn, even by the adults giving out candy."

Bishop goes on to argue the Charlie Brown specials have nothing of value to offer today’s children; the programs are just a nostalgia trip for parents.

PATCH WANTS TO KNOW - Do you think the bullying in "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" is a bad message for kids? Or is this parent just going too far, and ruining a treasured Halloween pasttime? Tell us in the comments below.

It is a really sad world when Charlie Brown is being targeted for bullying. Sometimes people take things just a little too far. Spend some time with your kids, and teach them how to be kind to one another, don't expect the media to raise your children. Less time boycotting, more time parenting people!

The Parent that is overly concerned about Charlie Brown is a blockhead! "Of all the Charlie Browns in the world-you're the Charlie Browniest!"-quote from Lucy. Now pay us all a nickel for your insecurities because the Doctor is "Real" In!

If your against the movie, turn off your tv. No one is forcing it to be on in your house. If your child "bullies" you into watching it, watxh it with them and talk about the parts that upset you. This really isn't an issue for censorship.

Right on! I totally agree. Peanuts is harmless and so sweet. It's up to each parent to decide if they should show it to their child. Banned for everyone? Hello no. Each parent should decide what his/her child can watch. No different from a school junk food ban. Don't want your child eating candy at school? Then he's not allowed to. But don't ban the entire school.
