Weekly Fire Report: Three Fires Including a Two-Alarm

A two-alarm structure fire response Saturday was the second two alarm fire this week for South City.

03/19/2012 - On Monday morning South City Fire (Engines E61 E62 E65 PT61 R61) along with San Bruno (Engine E51) and Brisbane (Engine E81 as RIC) responded to a structure fire call. They were dispatched at 7:19 a.m. to 105 Toyon Avenue on reports of an attic fire sparked by a bathroom ceiling fan. A resident in the one story single family dwelling started to make his own fire attack and advised dispatch that he thought the fire department might not know. When BC17 arrived on scene he saw light smoke and instructed PT61 to head to the roof upon their arrival and the remaining crews look for extension of the fire in the attic area. E81 and E51 were released from scene and the last South City crew left the scene 150 minutes after initial dispatch. 

3/24/2012- 48 minutes after midnight Saturday another fire dispatch response was toned out. At 12:48 a.m. building 6 of the apartments on 3860 Callan Blvd had an exterior fire about 10x10 knocked down with a water can by occupants living there. Truck 61 (SSF), E61(SSF), E64(SSF), E94(Daly City), E52(San Bruno), E71(Pacifica) BC17, and BC19 all responded. E64 was first on scene of the two-story apartment complex and spent 57 minutes with E61 checking for extensions and completing knockdown.

3/24/2012- At 12:44 p.m. a structure fire response for E62, E61 , PT61 , E81, SQ65 , E93 BC17, BC16 with E52 as RIC went out to 229 Harris Ct. Reports of a fire at Vortex Industries after a grinding process in their garage area. After first crew on scene (E62) reported heavy smoke from a large concrete block structure, a 2nd alarm was brought into stage at Mitchell and Harris St at 12:50. PT51, E92 E38 BC118 BS86 and an investigator were assigned to 2nd alarm. At 1:43 crews started releasing from scene and remaining crews were in overhaul process for about an hour. Final member left the scene 119 minutes after dispatched.
