Two-Alarm Fire on Starlite Street

A quick call for two alarms as mutual aid is needed in South City to put out a fire in a large commercial concrete block structure.

Blogger Mark Atienza regularly listens to the fire dispatch feed and brings us this report of a two-alarm fire Thursday night.

Crews from South City Fire Department took advantage of mutual aid by balancing a full assignment and requesting an additional alarm.

South San Francisco Fire Department's trucks BC17, E61, T61, E62, E64, SQ65 and R61 were dispatched to a full assignment for heavy smoke coming from a building by a single reporting party at 114 South Maple venue Thursday 03/15/2012 @ 8:10 p.m.

The first crew on scene (E62) gave a size up of light smoke (D side), possibly to the rear of 114 South Maple, and instructed next engine company to come in on Starlite Street. E62 continued investigation and radioed dispatch that there was heavy smoke from the roof of 125 Starlite Street and requested the balance of a full assignment. Dispatch sent San Bruno E51 and E52 along with Battalion 19.

E51 was instructed to help E62 stretch a second 2 1/2 hose line upon arrival and E52 was to establish RIT (Rapid Intervention). First arriving crews had a hard time forcing entry to attack the blaze, and the second alarm was called shortly after balance to one alarm.

Crews got the upper hand on the fire after the second alarm, and the final crew was released 168 minutes after initial dispatch of the full assignment. The business involved is Superior Aluminum Body Corporation‎.
