For this Valentine’s Day edition of Patch Picks, we highlight money-saving craft ideas, cooking classes with a romantic spin, and where to go and what to get to make your Valentine swoon.

  • Take the kids and teens to the this afternoon for a special free . Youngsters can design and decorate their own valentines to hand out to friends and family.
  • Parties That Cook is offering a special Valentine’s Day menu for both a for Gourmet Dating this evening, and for four weekend , starting tomorrow night and running through Monday. All five classes will start at 6:30pm at Dacor Kitchen on Dubuque Avenue, with the couples’ courses including two free glasses of wine.
  • Hit one of the local Safeway stores to take advantage of their deals on V-Day gifts. The chain is currently advertising chocolate gift assortments starting at $2.99 and bouquets of red roses starting at $19.99.
  • If a romantic evening on the town is on the agenda, Italian food rarely misses on the romance factor. Grand Avenue’s and on Cypress Avenue serve classic Italian fare in upscale, but still cozy surroundings, setting the mood for a special meal with a special someone. Reservations are strongly recommended.
  • Though traditionally known as a lover’s holiday, Valentine’s Day gains points with even the most cynical if for nothing else but its coincidence with SF Beer Week. Treat your date, your friends or simply yourself to one of the many events happening all over the Bay Area for the nine-day craft brew festival, starting this Friday, and celebrate your love of the spectacular people and spectacular beers in your life. Highlights include beer-infused ice cream at Humphry Slocombe, a beer tasting for women only at Devil’s Canyon in Belmont, a peek at future breweries at Social Kitchen’s Nanobrewery Festival in San Francisco and a number of beer pairing dinners and other events on Valentine’s Day.
