San Mateo County ranks third of all California counties in median household income, and South San Francisco plays an interesting part in that.
Rich Blocks, Poor Blocks, a website that compiles American Community Survey data, has broken down every city in America by neighborhood and listed them all by average household income, and the results are quite interesting.
The site separates South San Francisco into about 10 sections — the 10 census tracts that divide the city.
The wealthiest neighborhood of South City is Westborough, on the southwest corner, where the median household income is $108,919.
In contrast, the poorest area of the city is downtown along Grand Avenue between Highway 101 and Chestnut Avenue, where the median household income is $48,785.
