Police in South San Francisco are asking for the public's help in investigating a hit-and-run crash that took place outside a church Christmas pageant earlier this month.
On Dec. 19 at about 6:50 p.m., officers responded to reports of a crash involving a pedestrian near All Souls Church in the 400 block of Miller Avenue, according to South San Francisco police.
A man in his 30s was getting out of his car when he was struck by a white Ford pickup truck, police said.
The victim was hospitalized with injuries that were potentially life threatening.
Investigators obtained surveillance video footage of the truck just prior to the crash, police said.
A patrol officer spotted the vehicle later that day and traced it to a home in the 500 block of Fourth Lane.
The truck had allegedly been stolen and showed evidence of a crash on the exterior, police said.
Michael Weiler, 27, was contacted at a nearby residence, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.
Weiler denied any connection to the truck and the incident, but at least one witness from the scene identified him as the driver, and other witnesses identified the truck, prosecutors said.
Weiler was arrested for hit-and-run resulting in injury and failing to provide aid to a victim, police said.
A search of Weiler's residence yielded property that had been stolen four days earlier from a home in Millbrae, police said.
Investigators also seized an unspecified amount of ammunition.
On Monday, Weiler pleaded not guilty to all charges, prosecutors said. He remains in San Mateo County Jail on $150,000 bail.
Police are hoping more witnesses of the crash will come forward to assist the investigation.
