Small Fire Chars Grass at Genentech Campus

Strong winds worried firefighters.

By Bay City News

Sparks from a surging power line started a small grass fire in an industrial area of South San Francisco on Friday morning, a fire battalion chief said.

The grass fire that broke out in an easement in the 500 block of Forbes Boulevard was reported around 9:20 a.m., South San Francisco fire Battalion Chief Brian Grasser said.

The one-alarm fire on the biotech company Genentech campus was extinguished quickly, Grasser said.

"Everything today is going to be fanned by the wind, that was our biggest concern," he said.
