Five Things You Need to Know Wednesday

"Superman" and super dogs.

1. Tonight is this month's regular meeting of the San Mateo County Community College District Board. At 6pm, members of the board will meet for discussion at 3401 CSM Drive in San Mateo. The meeting is open to the public.

2. Join fellow artists and craftspeople at this evening's Scrapbooking Workshop in San Bruno. From 6:30 to 8:30pm, those aged 16 and older can come work under the guidance of an instructor to set their memories against beautiful backings, using assorted papers and materials. The class will cost residents $30 ($38 for non-residents) with a $10 lab fee.

3. Kids aged 5 to 12 can work on their reading skills and build confidence by reading to trained therapy dogs at today's Paws for Tales workshop at the Brisbane Library. Parental accompaniment is required for all junior readers, and a release form must be signed prior to each child's reading. Registration is required for the 6:30pm event.

The original "Superman," starring Christopher Reeve, will air in two showings today at the South San Francisco Grand Avenue Public Library. The event is free, and wraps up the library's month-long celebration of heroes both real and fictional.

5. At 7pm tonight, city council members will gather for this month's second regular meeting in the Municipal Services Building. Members will discuss city policy and law, and the spending of city funds.
