Caltrain Fare Increases Coming Next Month

Fare increases are arriving July 1.

Caltrain riders using paper tickets should expect higher prices beginning July 1. At the start of the month, paper tickets purchased from vending machines will cost 25 cents more for one-way tickets and 50 cents more for Day Passes.

Caltrain officials hope the price increases encourage riders to use Clipper, a regional payment system, instead.

A second fare increase of the same rate will go into effect July 1, 2013 unless 50 percent of one-way tickets purchased by March 1, 2013 are paid for using Clipper.

Ticket vending machines are currently used for 75 percent of one-way tickets.

Customers of the eight-ride ticket and monthly passes can also expect change.

Eight-ride ticket buyers will get a 7.5 percent discount—down from 15 percent—on one-way fares with the ticket being valid for 30 days.

Monthly passes and parking permits will now be available until the 15th every month, a sales extension of six days.
