Bring Fun Back to the Kitchen

Venture into a world where other people actually help you coo--and you don't have to do the dishes.

Morning: 15 to 20 chaotic minutes of trying to stuff scrambled eggs, oatmeal or cold cereal down the kids’ throats before school. Lunch: Packed PB&J’s. Dinner: Something healthy enough to get some form of nutrition into the kids but interesting enough to make them want it. It’s not hard to see how the art of cooking may have lost its mystique for some.

For this week's Great Escape, we suggest you try reigniting your creative spark in the kitchen by making cooking a fun, creative, social process. Parties that Cook, a company which hosts social cooking parties in and around San Francisco, Seattle and Chicago, aims to introduce guests not only to each other, but to new, innovative recipes from all over the world. Their Bay Area events are held at Dacor Kitchen on Dubuque Avenue, and take the form of a team-oriented mixer, with shared wine and music.

If a romantic evening with the significant other is in the stars this weekend, skip the fancy restaurant and head to Friday’s , where you’ll make and taste your own six-course menu of worldly delights, which includes sweet Italian Sausage Paninis and Brazilian Fish Croquettes. Looking for a fun Ladies’ Night activity? Check out Tuesday’s , where you’ll concoct Butternut Squash Turnovers and Indian Curry Cups while sipping wine with new and old friends.
