Pi Day Math and Science Night

91 students and their families showed up to play math games and celebrate Pi Day.

Parkway held its second family math and science night on March 14, 2012 (yes, Pi Day).

Not even the rain could keep Panther families away from Parkway’s Family Math and Science Night. 91 students and their families participated in the celebration of Pi Day.

Pi Day was started right here in the Bay Area in 1988 by Larry Shaw. Pi is estimated at 3.14, so on March 14 (3/14) we celebrate Pi Day. Pi is a never-ending, never repeating number you get when you divide a circumference of a circle by its diameter.

Highlights of the evening included an Irrational Web Quest, Pi math activities, Poetry, Art and a hands-on science lab where families made their own bouncy ball. Seventh grader Karina Ayala was the first place winner of the Pi Day digit contest, reciting 102 digits of pi.

The Math & Science Department really made the evening a success!
